Hotel Photography

The thing about luxury and boutique hotels is that unless you ask yourself ‘what is the story behind this building’, unless you actually ‘look’, you will never be able to capture it on film. Unless you chase the sunset, metaphorically and literally, you won’t have a shot at getting it right. After having photographed luxury hotels like the St. Regis in Bombay, and many boutique hotels in Rajasthan and Goa, I’ve realized that it’s not always the photographer that decides exactly what they want to say about the building. Sometimes, one needs to sit back and watch how the structure responds. And that’s exactly my process, when I shoot hotels.

Hotel, resort and boutique-stay photography across India

Nikhil Kapur photographs luxury hotels, boutique properties, resorts and heritage stays, from the St. Regis in Mumbai to boutique hotels across Rajasthan and Goa. The images are made for booking platforms, brochures, press, advertising and social media, so a property looks the way guests will remember it.

What a hotel shoot covers

  • Exteriors and architecture, timed for the best light of the day
  • Lobbies, restaurants, bars and public spaces
  • Guest rooms, suites and bathrooms
  • Pools, spas and amenities
  • Details, food and lifestyle moments that give the property its personality
  • Aerial and drone views where the site allows

A process built around the story of the building

Every hotel has a story. Before shooting, the focus is on what makes the building distinct: its architecture, its setting and the way guests move through it. Time on site is planned around the light so each space is photographed at its best.
